Edgy Lights Arcade Photoshoot and Sweet Daze in Plano, TX - Jazmyn
This was by far my favorite and most creative photoshoot to date! Lately I’ve been writing down ideas for photoshoots that I want to do over the next year. Personally, I don’t like to do what I see others doing. If it’s something that is trending, you probably won’t see me take part in it. I try to challenge myself to pull inspiration from places but not to copy.
As I was scrolling through my phone a couple of nights ago, an idea of how I could use the Prism I purchased a few months ago came to mind… an Arcade Photoshoot! I’ve seen a few done, but rarely executed in any in the groups that I follow on social media. It would be a fresh breath of air and would guide my editing style in a new direction. With all of the changes that have been going on in my life, this new bold, vibrant, colorful, edgy tone was more meaningful to the way I felt. My past work has a softness to it… it felt “safe.” It was pretty, but safe. The direction my work is moving towards embodies being powerful, brave, bold, fun, and edgy. Nothing moody or depressing. It just screams good vibrations and confidence.
I immediately reached out to Jazmyn, who is the model I worked with at The Donut Elopement a few months ago. Jazmyn was the perfect candidate to execute this shoot the way I envisioned it in my head. She was instantly on board to the idea and suggested a location that she had photographed at in Plano, called Plano Super Bowl. It’s a 24 hour bowling lane with a gaming arcade section. We set a date and morning for that same week to execute it. I made suggestions on what to bring for wardrobe and explained that I was going to challenge myself to create these lighting effects using a prism and no flash. Jazmyn was also confident it would work well. We arrived at Plano Super Bowl around 9:45am and were finished by 11am with no interruptions.
I also suggested visiting Sweet Daze Dessert Bar since we would be in that area. I had been following their page for a while and wanted a good reason to travel that far (since I live in N. Richland Hills) to try their donuts and drinks. It did not disappoint! The Lavender lemonade was divine!
Can't wait until our next collaboration! She's so fun to work with!
