Family Photoshoot in Cedar Hill, TX - The Navarro Family
I’ve been looking forward to this exciting day! While I have done hundreds of family photoshoots over the last few years, this one is special because it’s the first paid session I’ve had in a few months.
This year was very tough in relation to work. I was in a negative headspace and I let it slip into my work life. Another part of me just felt stuck. It felt like my editing style stagnant and uninspiring. It lead me to think that this was possibly the reason why I wasn’t booking as much work as before. Thankfully the Donut Elopement Photoshoot I went to last month with the Styled Shoots Association last month was the perfect inspiration I needed to get unstuck! Things are about to change for the better, especially after working with this awesome family!
I have to admit that this family was one of my favorites to photograph! They were so funny and laid-back! It was super exciting to finally photograph in a different location outside of my normal go-to spots. This location was Tessa’s suggestion, and I’m very appreciative of her bringing it to my attention.
If you have never photographed at Cedar Hill State Park, make sure you have cash with you for parking, otherwise you will have to park and go inside to pay with your card. Once you’ve paid, you are free to enter into the beautiful park. I was in awe while driving there. The trees sat tall on hills full of lush, green vegetation. The sky was a gorgeous, crystal, blue color filled with fluffy, white cotton-balls for clouds. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking!
Since it’s still summer, there were quite a few pests flying and leaping in the grass. First, we posed next to what appeared to be an old, wooden, rustic, white house with a metal shed across from it. I loved the different textures and the personality it offered, and felt it matched really well with what the ladies wore (the 2 images above feat. mother and daughter). The sun setting was perfection!
After capturing photos of the father and son, we headed down the wooded trail towards the red barn. There were 3-4 other groups photographing nearby, so we took a few photos near the windmill to kill time.
One thing I love about Cedar Hill State Park is that they have so many different types of beautiful scenery to offer guests who may be vacationing or for those who may be visiting for photography purposes. Our session lasted a bit longer than expected because we were so amazed by the location while having fun in the process. I look forward to working with the Navarro Family again in the near future and hope to have more sessions in this beautiful area.
